Kate's thesis topic concerned Method optimization of determining alpha radioisotopes of plutonium in bottom sediments. Laboratory of Environmental Protection and Radiochemistry of the AGH University of Science and Technology: Kate's research included optimization of the complex method of determining plutonium radioisotopes in bottom sediments.

This is the analytical method where alpha spectrometry is used. The main part of the research was selection of appropriate conditions of plutonium co-precipitation with neodymium with a pro-ecological approach. Laboratory techniques which were used included microwave mineralization and ion exchange chromatography. Final measurements were made on the alpha spectrometer.

Kate's first bachelor's (BSc) degree was obtained from Cracow University of Technology in Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology with field of study: Chemical and process engineering. Specialization: Engineering of technological processes. Kate's thesis topic was Suspoemulsions stability testing. Laboratory of rheology of Cracow University of technology: the research included basic elements of fluid mechanics. Various types of materials underwent viscosity testing. The main purpose of the thesis was demonstration of alternative method of viscosity testing using rotational viscosimeter-helipath instead of traditional rheometer. This type of viscosimeter minimises negative influence of shearing sample in one layer during the test. Viscosity of the samples was tested depending on the solid content and sedimentation influence.

Kate is well skilled in managing and organizing workflow.

Anna Marchańska

BSc Biotechnology, Industrial and Environmental Protection Biotechnology

Technical and Regulatory Data Entry Specialist, Trainee
Expert skills and knowledge

Chemicals safety, product testing, biological processes for industrial purposes.

Anna obtained a bachelor (BSc. Eng.) degree from the Cracow University of Technology in the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology. Speciality: Industrial and environmental biotechnology . The subject of Anna's engineering thesis was Checking the possibility of using nanometric complexes in the degradation of an active substance from a group of neonicotinoids. The study was conducted to assess the efficiency of degradation of an organic active substance from the neonicotinoid group with the use of catalytic nanomaterials. It is worth mentioning that neonicotinoid insecticides are currently the fastest-growing class of insecticides, demonstrating resistance to degradation under the influence of sunlight and a long half-life. The effectiveness of neonicotinoids is ensured by their influence on the main neurotransmitter responsible for the proper functioning of the brain, i.e. the acetylcholine receptor, which causes a quick reaction with the central nervous system of insects. In Anna’s study it was found that as the reaction time increases, the absorbance also increases. The study led to the conclusion that imidacloprid particles are adsorbed on the surface of gold nanoparticles.

Anna worked in hospital laboratories and was responsible for analysis of biological materials following rigorous health and safety rules and quality management system in the laboratory of clinical chemistry, analytics, and haematology departments. Anna has also gained workplace experience from being involved in preparation of reports on measurements of emissions of pollutants, analysis of results, assessment of compliance with standards and environmental laws at EmiPro international company.

Anna is certified auditor ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental management systems.

Anna is currently working towards obtaining a master’s degree in Biotechnology from Cracow University of Technology.

Justyna Rymarz

BSc Chemical and Process Engineering

Technical and Regulatory Data Entry Specialist, Trainee
Expert skills and knowledge

Chemicals and consumer products safety, product testing.

Justyna obtained a bachelor (BSc. Eng.) degree from the Cracow University of Technology in the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology. Speciality: Engineering of technological processes. The subject of Justyna’s 's engineering thesis was regarding Analysis of quality of solid fuel used in high-efficiency boilers.

Justyna’s academic research concerned testing fine coal which is the fuel that is often burned due to its low price. The academic paper was divided into two parts as described below. The theoretical part of the project focused on the definition of solid fuels, discussed their classification, and then presented the quality requirements of solid fuels used for energy purposes. This part of the study also incorporated a description of solid fuel boilers. The experimental part of the project presented the data that were obtained from analyzes of type IIA fine coal that were carried out, and which is used in the heating installation for combustion in the WR boiler (water boiler with a grate furnace) in order to get domestic hot water. Basic quality parameters were determined, i.e. moisture content, calorific value, ash content, sulfur content, oversize and undersize content. The tests were carried out for eight fine coal samples taken from various batches. The results were analyzed in terms of the requirements for solid fuels and the requirements specified for the municipal heating plant installation fueled by the tested coal dust. It is noted that despite the increasing share of energy obtained from renewable sources and gaseous fossil fuels, the thermal energy sector of many countries in Europe and other continents (Poland, Australia, etc.,) is still based mainly on solid fossil fuels.

Justyna is a certified auditor of the internal quality management system according to ISO 9001: 2015.

Justyna is currently working towards obtaining a master’s degree in Engineering of technological processes from Cracow University of Technology. Justyna is an active member of the Academic Science Society of Chemists and regularly participate in the Session of Scientific Circles.
